something smells fishy...

why you shouldn't bring fish to work. or really, bring lunch.

*scene 1*
(a co-worker walks into the office). "Man, something smells terrible!"
Response from another co-worker: "I know, someone brought some food in. It smells sooo bad."

[Meanwhile, of course, I'm sitting there obliviously eating my food, wondering what they're smelling -- because I can't smell anything bad. But after looking around... I realize they're surreptitiously glancing over at me. I quickly shove the remaining bites in my mouth and hastily make my way over to the kitchen to wash out the tupperware]

*scene 2 at a team meeting*
derek, the director of our team: "hey howard (a co-worker who sits near me), does it smell better now where you sit?" Howard: "yeah, I guess so"
derek: "I think I figured out the smell. Tuna. But microwaved! God! Why?!"
[Meanwhile, of course, I'm sitting at the table not sure if it was me. I mean, maybe it was someone else with stinky food? But then he looks over at me. Horrified, I thankfully realize that I forgot the printout of the presentation and rush to my desk to grab it.]

For the record, it was red snapper. And seasoned with herbs, chili powder, salt and pepper.
The thing is, I didn't think it smelled. Maybe because I've become desensitized?

I've learned my lesson now.

So... looks like I'll be staying in the Bay Area for a while longer.

Oh Berkeley, why can't I quit you?

Because my Chinese reading + writing was previously non-existent, I've been learning Chinese since going home over the holidays. My mom picked up a couple of books in Taiwan and made me study. I felt like I was back in high school again. (No one told me to study in college).

But it's been great. I have hundreds of index cards lying around with Chinese characters on them. I even lugged them around with me around New York City and the likes. I'm a nerd. I know.

But seriously, when I see things like this (see below), this just irritates me. I thought people stopped making fun of the Chinese language by oh... 2nd grade. I mean, I was one of very few Chinese in Delaware, but even the kids learned. Apparently, some people never well...

On a much happier (and far more aesthetically pleasing) note, Taiwan sure knows how to ring in the New Year. My mom used this video as an advert to convince us that heading to cold NYC Times Sq to watch the ball drop and hold your bladder for 7 hours+ wasn't worth it. Instead, we should go to Taipei...

Uh... happy new year everyone! (I think if you say it before the 15th of Jan, it's not belated yet)...

Photo Booth FUN!!!

This is what happens when you have an impromptu get-together at your house with many people who are very easily amused. This is what happens when someone gets a hold of your MacBook with a built in iSight camera and finds the special effects in Photo Booth.

And this is what happens when the owner of the MacBook has Xanga and isn't afraid to use it.

because words are not enough...

I realized xanga posts really are only interesting if there are pretty graphics or pictures accompanying them (in my ADD mind). so without further ado, the alaska saga continues...

Alaska, Round 2.

inside passage. breath-taking, really. the pix don't do it justice.

dog sledding in juneau! took a heli up to the glacier. fantabular.
